- Two cases have been recorded in the United Kingdom with the new variant, and it has been known that these two cases are linked to coming from South Africa
- This Amicron variant is widespread in several countries including: South Africa, Botswana, Belgium, Hong Kong, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, Angola, Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia
- Now most countries are placing restrictions on travel to South Africa to limit the spread of the omicron variable
The World Health Organization classifies Omicron as a Category 1 variant of the Covid variant of concern
This omicron variant contains many mutations that help spread and outweigh the protection provided by some vaccines
But the researchers, despite the insufficient data on the new variant, they believe that the current vaccines will protect against severe disease, and we hope so.
