Etiology:
• Many drugs, herbal medicines and industrial substances can cause liver injury with different clinical and histological findings in the liver.
• Antibiotics are the most common cause of drug-related liver injury in the community.
Amoxicillin-clavulanate (most common) and trimethoprim sulfomethoxazole are prominent among antibiotics.
Risk factors:
• The following factors increase the risk of drug-induced toxic hepatitis:
advanced age
female gender
familial predisposition
Previous history of the same or any drug-related reaction
Alcohol intake
Obesity
having kidney failure
Race (black and hispanic)
