Esophageal Diverticulosis

Zenker's diverticulum

It is a pus-type diverticulum that arises just above the cricopharyngeus muscle (Killian triangle) as a result of the coordination disorder of the pharyngeal muscles.

There may be complaints of food stuck in the upper esophagus, food residues coming into the mouth after meals, bad breath and swelling in the neck.

There is a risk of developing esophageal squamous cell cancer.

Traction diverticulum

It often accompanies mediastinal inflammation (such as tuberculosis).

It contains all the walls of the esophagus and is a true diverticulum.

Epiphrenic diverticulum

They are pus-type diverticula located in the lower esophagus.

It is often associated with achalasia or distal esophageal strictures.
