General features

• It is transmitted by fecal-oral route.
• The incubation period is 15-60 days.
• It may rarely become chronic in organ transplant recipients, those receiving cytotoxic chemotherapy, and HIV patients.
• It can have a fulminant course especially in pregnant women. The most common cause of fulminant hepatitis in pregnant women is the hepatitis virus.
• Hepatitis E has a vaccine.
