0 Receiving a white light reflex from the pupil (white pupil).

REASONS:

• Retinoblastoma (most important cause; frequency: 1/20000)

• Congenital cataract (most common cause: 15/10000)

• Senile cataract

• Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP)

• Retinal detachment

• Congenital toxoplasmosis

• Primary hyperplastic persistent vitreous (PHPV)

• Retinal dysplasia

• Coats' disease

• Nematode endophthalmitis


Coats Disease:

• It is congenital retinal telangiectasia that is almost always unilateral and progresses with vascular anomalies, causing exudation and eventually exudative retinal detachment.

• It usually progresses with leukocoria, vision loss and strabismus in boys and adolescents in the first decade.
