Papilledema is defined as swelling of the optic nerve head due to increased intracranial pressure.
In patients with papilledema, an intracranial mass, pressure increase should be considered until proven otherwise.
The clinic is divided into four types:
1. Early papilledema: Visual acuity is normal.
2. Established papilledema: Temporary blackouts begin, visual acuity is often reduced.
3. Long-standing papilledema: optic disc hemorrhages and vision
There is a decrease in acuity.
4. Atrophic papilledema: Visual acuity is greatly reduced.
