Lisinopril and its role in the treatment of COVID-19

Table Of Contents

SARS-CoV-1 and the novel SARS-CoV-2 coronaviruses enter host cells via angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors
Study shows that the Blood pressure drug that called ACEI drugs (like Lisinopril) increases SARS-CoV-2 receptors in the transmission and pathogenesis associated tissues then increases the risk of SARS-CoV-2 viral infection
The researchers made the study in mice, they found that the lisinopril raised the ACE2 enzyme index in tissues, the combination of lisinopril and losartan did not raise tissue levels of ACE2
Thy found that ACE2 was highest in the small intestine, followed by kidney, lung, and brain
While the lisinopril monotherapy increased the ACE2 protein in key tissues affected by SARS-CoV-2, the combination of lisinopril with losartan prevented the increase in ACE2 expression
    Note
This preliminary scientific report should not be regarded as conclusive, guide clinical practice or treated as established information
we still need to evaluate whether drug-induced changes in tissue ACE2 resolved after drug cessation.
