Birth Room Care

If umbilicus has not fallen within 14 days: consider hypothyroidism, F-XIII deficiency, and leukocyte adhesion defects
To prevent omphalitis, it must be well taken care of, and attention must be paid to the nature of the disinfectant or sterilizer used, since some of them have a toxic effect
For example, do not apply iodine more than three times because the body of the newborn absorbs it and it has toxic effects
Triple tincture or bacitracin can be applied to the navel
The navel can be cared for with alcohol (alternative: one-time chlorhexidine or hexachlorophen)
Hexachlorophene daily is contraindicated, especially in very low birth weight infants, as it may be neurotoxic.
OTHER MAINTENANCE
protect from gonococcal infection: silver nitrate or (0.5% erythromycin or 1% tetracycline drops)
1 mg of water-soluble vitamin K1 (phytomenadione) IM
Regardless of the mother's hepatitis status, before discharge: if the newborn weight was >2 kg we administer Hepatitis B vaccination
