Schatzki Ring


• Also called Stick House Syndrome
• The Schatzky ring is a fibrous ring of tissue that forms in the esophagus, the tube that connects your mouth to your stomach. The ring is not associated with malignant tumors and is composed of tissue lining the esophagus.
• It is the fibrous membrane seen at the junction of squamous and columnar epithelium.
• It can be acquired or congenital.
• Dysphagia is seen only against solid foods.
• Dysphagia is usually intermittent, depending on the size of the food items.
• It is treated endoscopically by dilating/tearing the ring with a balloon/bougie.
• There is no risk of developing malignancy
