1. Pill Esophagitis
• It is the fact that the drug stays in the esophagus for a long time and comes into contact with the mucosa and as a result, it leads to the development of ulcers in the esophagus.• The most causative drug is doxycycline. It can also be seen with potassium salts, iron preparations, NSAIDs and bisphosphonates.
• Usually the lesion is in the middle part of the esophagus. (narrowest area of the esophagus)
• The most important symptoms are chest pain and odynophagia.
2. Radiation Esophagitis
• It develops as a result of radiotherapy applied especially in breast and lung cancers.• The risk increases in proportion to the radiation dose. Concomitant use of doxorobucin, bleomycin, cyclophosphamide and cisplatin increases the risk.
• Dysphagia and odynophagia can be seen for months.
• Treatment is conservative, dilatation is applied in cases that develop strictures.
