Osteochondritis Dissecans

It is the separation of the articular cartilage from its normal place together with the bone under it and falling into the joint.

Pain and swelling develop in the knee. Sometimes the piece can be palpated (joint mouse).

Osteochondritis dissecans is most common in the knee (most commonly the medial condyle of the femur).

Treatment

• If the piece has not fallen into the joint, it remains conservative; rest, device and plaster are applied.

• Even if it has fallen into the joint, it is surgically removed.
