HELLP Syndrome

Description and clinical picture:
• This syndrome usually appears in the third trimester of pregnancy.
• There are disturbances in liver function tests, hemolysis and thrombocytopenia.
It is a condition that can be seen with gestational eclampsia and with pre-eclampsia .
There is an increase in arterial blood pressure, and edema and proteinuria dating back to pre-eclampsia are also noted.

Laboratory:
• Hemolytic anemia with microangiopathy.
• Increased liver enzymes
• Thrombocytopenia (<100,000 mm3)

Treatment:
• HELLEP syndrome usually resolves quickly after childbirth.
