Tracheotomy


• Tracheotomy is made between the 2nd and 3rd cartilages.

Tracheotomy Indications:
Upper airway obstructions
pathologies that require reduction of dead space in the upper respiratory tract
In order to perform deep aspiration in pathologies where the secretion cannot be removed sufficiently
It can be opened before or during surgery in patients who will undergo upper respiratory tract surgery.
Tracheotomy Complications:
Operative:
 Bleeding, pneumothorax, mediastinal emphysema, esophageal laceration, asphyxia
Postoperative:
Subcutaneous emphysema, atelectasis, pneumonia, tracheal granuloma, tracheal stenosis, bleeding, wound infection.
Coniotomy:
The airway provided by the cricothyroid membrane is called. In patients who cannot be intubated, the most urgent is airway provision. However, it is not preferred because it damages the larynx.
