WOUNDS

Any kind of damage caused by a physical and chemical factor in the body is called a wound.

There are a variety of factors involved in the occurrence of injuries:

• The magnitude of the transferred energy

• Duration of transferred energy

• Properties of the hit object: Its size, features such as pointed-sharp-blunt.

• Injured body area: The effects of a trauma of the same nature on the thigh region and the head are different.

The parts of a wound are:

• Wound length: It is the length of the wound from one end to the other.

• Wound width: It is the distance between the two lips of the wound.

• Wound's lips: These are the edges of the wound that open to both sides.

• Wound angles: These are the angles between the lips from the two ends of the wound.

• Tails of the wound: These are the superficial, line-like parts of the wound from both ends.

• Wound depth: It is the distance between the skin level and the deepest part of the wound.

Classification of Wounds

Blunt Traumatic Wounds:

Blunt body wounds: These are wounds that occur with a blunt object, where the wound lips are not smooth, and where there is usually little subcutaneous soft tissue.

Abrasion: These are often linear wounds in the form of the superficial layers of the skin due to the effect of friction of blunt objects.

Ecchymosis: These are lesions that occur as a result of the leakage of blood from the small vessel torn by the effect of blunt trauma to the tissue spaces.

Hematoma: These are lesions where the blood coming out of the vessels torn as a result of trauma fills a tissue space and creates a mass appearance.

Cut wounds:

Sharp tool or object wounds: These are injuries caused by tools that cut, puncture or crush the skin and tissues with their sharp faces. The lips of stab wounds are smooth. They are usually more taller than their depth.

Sharp and crushing tool wounds: These are wounds with a sharp face like an ax or a line, but with relatively heavy tools. Wound lips are relatively smooth. Wound appearance may vary depending on the shape and weight of the instrument.

Hole-shaped wounds:

Sharp-piercing wounds: These are wounds caused by tools that pierce the skin with their sharp ends, such as knives and pocketknife, while cutting the skin. Wound lips are smooth. The depth of the wound is greater than its height.

Penetrating wounds: These are wounds caused by instruments that pierce the skin with their sharp points such as skewers, needles, screwdrivers. The depth of the wound is much greater than its height.

Firearm injuries:

In injuries caused by firearms, the hole where the bullet enters is called the "entry hole", the path it follows is called the "tragedy" and the hole through which it leaves the body is called the "exit hole". Wound formation in gunshot wounds; It depends on many factors such as the distance of the shot, the kinetic energy carried by the bullet, the size of the bullet.

Injuries due to explosions:

It can occur due to bomb, gas explosions, mine explosions. Injuries due to effects such as heat, electricity, chemicals and radiation
